HOW TO CARE FOR
ABOUT AFRICAN VIOLETS
African Violets are small houseplants with velvety leaves and fleshy stems. Vibrant miniature flowers bloom in clusters throughout the year providing a stunning display.
They are the perfect plant for a windowsill, desk or shelf. African violets make a great gift.
When should I water my African Violet?
Allow your African Violet to dry out in between waterings. They are best watered from a saucer or by using a self-watering pot. If the leaves get wet, unsightly spots will appear and then rot.
Never mist your foliage. Misting leaves causes fungal issues and disease. The only plants that are okay to mist are ferns and carnivorous plants.
African Violet grows best in medium indirect light. Avoid placing in spaces without natural light or with direct sunlight.
This compact plant grows up to nine inches tall and wide over time.
For a healthy plant, use a premium potting mix made exclusively for African Violets.
TEMPERATURE & HUMIDITY
African Violets prefer a warm, humid environment much like we do.
Fertilize your African Violet March through October with a bloom boosting fertilizer. Prune the stems and flowers when they dry up or turn brown. To help your plant grow optimally and evenly rotate the pot by a ¼ turn once per month.
ARE AFRICAN VIOLETS PET SAFE?
According to the ASPCA, African Violet plants are not toxic to dogs, cats, and horses.
If your African Violet is not producing flowers, it is likely a result of not getting enough light, warmth, and/or humidity. In this case, try moving the plant to a brighter spot and applying a bloom boosting fertilizer.
