A visit to Hicks Nurseries is an experience any time of the year. We often hear from our customers that we are their “happy place”, their “breath of fresh air”, their “magical destination”. Our signature annual events like the Flower & Garden Show, the Fall Festival and Christmas at Hicks are multi-generational family traditions our customers hold close to their hearts.
This year, our customers can explore more events, workshops and classes created to inspire, educate and connect our community even further. Whether you’re a gardening enthusiast or a curious beginner, we have something fun and engaging for everyone, and then some.
FEATURED EVENT
All-New Fall Festival
September 12 – November 1, 2026
Get into the fall spirit at our annual Fall Festival, a generations-long family tradition in the heart of Nassau County. Stroll through thousands of pumpkins, mums, cornstalks and festive fall décor, enjoy free admission and parking, and make memories with kid-friendly activities, photo ops, lawn games, an animated children’s story walk-through, a new indoor garden experience and weekend meet-and-greets with our one and only Otto the Ghost.
Make a day of it with seasonal favorites like fresh New York State apples, cider donuts, candy apples, kettle corn, homemade pies, Hicks famous fudge, roasted local corn, and weekend bites from the Hicks Food Truck.
Guests can also upgrade the fun with weekend Fall Festival kids wristband activities. The hay maze is open daily for a nominal fee. Discover something new every weekend including live music, demonstrations, themed weekends, our Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off, a Halloween Party and more.

Spend a fall afternoon at Hicks enjoying live music surrounded by the sights of the season. Grab a treat from the Country Market, find a spot to relax and enjoy the music with family and friends.

Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off & Pumpkin Carving
See some of Long Island’s biggest pumpkins!
Watch local growers put their giant pumpkins to the test as they compete for prizes and bragging rights. Everyone who has grown a pumpkin, no matter the size, is encouraged to bring it in and join the competition. Then, stick around from 12–3pm for an incredible pumpkin carving demonstration.

Fall Harvest Weekend
Celebrate fall with the whole family!
Spend the holiday weekend enjoying all the sights, flavors and fun of fall at Hicks. Explore pumpkins and festive displays, enjoy farm-fresh fall favorites and roasted corn, and make a day of celebrating the season with family and friends.

Pet Parade & Costume Competition
Dress up your pet and join the Halloween fun!
Bring your pet in their best Halloween costume and show off their spooky, silly or creative style. Compete in six costume categories for a chance to win a Hicks Nurseries Gift Card, and every participating pet will receive a ribbon. Plus, meet Otto the Ghost and snap some fun fall photos together.

Bring the kids for a festive afternoon featuring complimentary Halloween-themed balloon creations. Stop by during your Fall Festival visit and watch as colorful balloons are transformed into fun creations to take home.

Experience the magic of the holiday season at Hicks Nurseries! Our garden center is transformed into a festive Christmas wonderland filled with twinkling lights, beautifully decorated trees, seasonal displays and holiday cheer for the whole family. Enjoy free holiday traditions including Pictures with Santa, Mail a Letter to Santa & Receive a Reply, our Children’s Animated Walk-Through Story, live brass band performances, carolers and more. With so many festive experiences and photo opportunities to enjoy, it’s no wonder Hicks Nurseries has been a beloved multi-generational family destination for decades.

36th Annual Flower & Garden Show
March
A beloved tradition since 1990, our annual Flower & Garden Show is the perfect way to shake off the winter blues and immerse yourself into spring.
Step into a world of breathtaking gardens in full bloom, thoughtfully designed by our award-winning landscape design team to inspire and delight. Enjoy additional free activities throughout the show, including a family-friendly scavenger hunt for all ages, available daily, and a hands-on “plant a pea” activity just for kids on weekends.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I take photos at Hicks Nurseries?
Yes. Personal photography is welcome anywhere on the property. Professional photo shoots (portraits, weddings, branded content) require advance permission — please email us at hicksinfo@hicksnurseries.com to arrange.

Are dogs allowed at Hicks Nurseries?
Yes! We welcome well-behaved dogs at Hicks Nurseries. For the comfort and safety of all our guests, dogs must be on a leash at all times. Please clean up after your pet. Service animals are welcome throughout the store. Pets are not permitted on certain seasonal experiences, such as Santa visits.
Is Hicks Nurseries good to visit on a rainy day?
Yes. Our heated indoor greenhouses (more than 40,000 square feet of climate-controlled space) are fully indoor, free to walk through, and open year-round. Our shade perennials are covered, as well as our fresh-cut live Christmas trees – so you can shop under lights and under cover! The outdoor nursery and courtyard add even more to explore on nice days.
Is Hicks Nurseries a good place to bring kids?
Yes — Hicks is a year-round, kid-friendly destination. Our heated indoor greenhouses (more than 40,000 square feet) are warm, bright, and stroller-friendly; our outdoor nursery and courtyard give kids room to roam on nice days; and we host family events including the Annual Flower & Garden Show, Fall Festival, Fall and Holiday animated story walk-through, Santa visits, and seasonal kids’ workshops. Is there food or coffee at Hicks Nurseries?
We do not have a full-service café on site, but seasonal pop-up refreshments may be available during the Flower & Garden Show and holiday season, and our food truck operates on weekends during the Fall Festival.
Is there a cost to visit?
There is no cost to visit Hicks Nurseries at any time. We also provide free parking and free admission for our annual events such as the Flower & Garden Show, Fall Festival and pictures with Santa. Workshops, classes and fall festival enhanced activities have separate fees.
