Yes, it’s cold outside but your plants are waking up and so are insects. There are dozens of different insects that can be controlled and prevented by an application of oil now. Both Summit Year Round Horticultural Oil and Bonide Neem Oil are good choices for this spray application. Both are free of synthetic chemicals and do a great job of controlling insect populations before they explode.
The most common insects controlled with this spraying are scale, spider mite and mealybug. Use Neem on Junipers since they may be sensitive to Summit Oil.
Temperatures should be above 40 degrees, the foliage should be dry and it should not rain the day of spraying. Remember to read the label first!
