HOW TO CARE FOR
Snake Plant
Sanseveria trifasciata
ABOUT SNAKE PLANT
Also known as Mother-in-Law’s Tongue, this succulent has upright sword-like leaves with green variegation. A multitasker, it purifies indoor air, removing toxins such as formaldehyde.
The Snake plant is an excellent choice for those seeking a low-maintenance indoor plant. It is one of the hardiest and most popular houseplants. Its sleek architectural structure complements modern and contemporary interior designs effortlessly.
According to Feng Shui experts, situating a Snake plant at the entrance of your home can help purify any negative energy entering your space.
WATERING
When should I water my Snake Plant?
Snake plants prefer to stay on the dry side. Too much water can easily kill this plant. To see if your Snake plant needs water, stick your finger about an inch down into the soil. If the soil feels dry, water. If the soil feels moist, do not water. If you are unsure, check again in a few days.
Never mist your foliage. Misting leaves causes fungal issues and disease. The only plants that are okay to mist are ferns and carnivorous plants.
LIGHT NEEDS
Snake plants are very versatile in their lighting needs. They grow well in bright indirect sunlight and can also tolerate low light conditions.
GROWTH
Snake plants may grow up to 4 ft. tall or larger depending on the variety.
SOIL NEEDS
Snake plants prefer well-drained soil.
TEMPERATURE & HUMIDITY
Snake plants prefer average humidity and adapt well to normal household temperatures.
FERTILIZING
Fertilize March through October with an all-purpose houseplant food. It is best to only prune away damaged leaves. To help it grow optimally and evenly, occasionally dust the leaves, and rotate the pot by a ¼ turn once a month.
ARE SNAKE PLANTS PET SAFE?
According to the ASPCA, Snake plants are toxic to dogs and cats.
TROUBLESHOOTING
A Snake plant with soft, mushy leaves is often a sign of overwatering.
