Philodendron are a classic, easy care group of houseplants that are quite simple to grow. Some varieties can even be grown directly in water. They are known for full, lush leaves and their ability to boost humidity, reduce stress and promote quality sleep.
Philodendron are available in several shapes, sizes and colors. They look best on an end table, bookshelf, desk or countertop.
When should I water my Philodendron?
Fleshy stems on upright varieties tend to require less water than trailing varieties. To see if your Philodendron plant needs water, stick your finger about an inch down into the soil. If it feels dry, water. If the soil feels moist, do not water. If you are unsure, check again in a few days.
Never mist your foliage. Misting leaves causes fungal issues and disease. The only plants that are okay to mist are ferns and carnivorous plants.
Philodendron grow best in medium indirect light.
Philodendron heights vary by variety.
Philodendron prefer moist, well-drained soil.
TEMPERATURE & HUMIDITY
Philodendron prefer high humidity and adapt well to normal household temperatures.
Philodendron plants should be fertilized March through October with an all-purpose houseplant food. Prune as needed to keep your plant compact and bushy. To help it grow optimally and evenly, occasionally dust the leaves, and rotate the pot by a ¼ turn once a month.
ARE PHILODENDRON PET SAFE?
According to the ASPCA, Philodendron are toxic to dogs and cats.
A large number of yellowing leaves could be a sign that you are overwatering.
