A visit to Hicks Nurseries is an experience any time of the year. We often hear from our customers that we are their “happy place”, their “breath of fresh air”, their “magical destination”.  Our signature annual events like the Flower & Garden Show, the Fall Festival and Christmas at Hicks are multi-generational family traditions our customers hold close to their hearts.

This year, our customers can explore more events, workshops and classes created to inspire, educate and connect our community even further. Whether you’re a gardening enthusiast or a curious beginner, we have something fun and engaging for everyone, and then some.

Plastic Recycling Program

Free Event | Don't Miss It

Help reduce garden waste by participating in the Recycling Program at Hicks Nurseries. This eco-friendly initiative helps to keep plastic pots, trays, and cell packs out of landfills while supporting sustainable gardening. Open to home gardeners only, participants can drop off clean garden plastics beginning May 11th. The recycling bin will be located in the pick-up area.

Summer Plant Swap & Sip

Free Event | Registration Required (Coming Soon)

Hicks Nurseries invites plant lovers to its Summer Plant Swap & Sip. This free event brings the community together to trade indoor and outdoor plants or cuttings, share plant care tips, and connect with fellow enthusiasts—all while enjoying light refreshments. Guests may bring up to five pest-free plants to swap, and Hicks experts will be on hand to offer guidance.

ANNUAL EVENT

36th Annual Flower & Garden Show

March

Children and adults admire a vibrant indoor garden filled with colorful flowers, lush plants, and a small waterfall. A stroller and shopping cart are nearby, and orange fabric hangs above, adding to the cheerful atmosphere.

A beloved tradition since 1990, our annual Flower & Garden Show is the perfect way to shake off the winter blues and immerse yourself into spring.

Step into a world of breathtaking gardens in full bloom, thoughtfully designed by our award-winning landscape design team to inspire and delight. Enjoy additional free activities throughout the show, including a family-friendly scavenger hunt for all ages, available daily, and a hands-on “plant a pea” activity just for kids on weekends.

ANNUAL EVENT

Fall Festival

September 12 – October 25, 2026

Welcome Fall at our annual Fall Festival, a generations-long family tradition in the heart of Nassau County. Stroll through thousands of pumpkins, mums, cornstalks and festive fall décor, enjoy free admission and parking, and make memories with kid-friendly activities, photo ops, lawn games, an animated children’s story walk-through, and weekend meet-and-greets with our one and only Otto the Ghost.

Make a day of it with seasonal favorites like fresh New York State apples, cider donuts, candy apples, kettle corn, homemade pies, Hicks famous fudge, roasted local corn, and weekend bites from the Hicks Food Truck.

Guests can also upgrade the fun with weekend Fall Festival kids wristband activities, hay maze open daily for a nominal fee, and look forward to special contests including the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off and Halloween Pet Parade.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I take photos at Hicks Nurseries?

Yes. Personal photography is welcome anywhere on the property. Professional photo shoots (portraits, weddings, branded content) require advance permission — please email us at hicksinfo@hicksnurseries.com to arrange.

Are dogs allowed at Hicks Nurseries?

Yes! We welcome well-behaved dogs at Hicks Nurseries. For the comfort and safety of all our guests, dogs must be on a leash at all times. Please clean up after your pet. Service animals are welcome throughout the store. Pets are not permitted on certain seasonal experiences, such as Santa visits.

Is Hicks Nurseries good to visit on a rainy day?

Yes. Our heated indoor greenhouses (more than 40,000 square feet of climate-controlled space) are fully indoor, free to walk through, and open year-round. Our shade perennials are covered, as well as our fresh-cut live Christmas trees – so you can shop under lights and under cover! The outdoor nursery and courtyard add even more to explore on nice days.

Is Hicks Nurseries a good place to bring kids?

Yes — Hicks is a year-round, kid-friendly destination. Our heated indoor greenhouses (more than 40,000 square feet) are warm, bright, and stroller-friendly; our outdoor nursery and courtyard give kids room to roam on nice days; and we host family events including the Annual Flower & Garden Show, Fall Festival, Fall and Holiday animated story walk-through, Santa visits, and seasonal kids’ workshops. Is there food or coffee at Hicks Nurseries?

We do not have a full-service café on site, but seasonal pop-up refreshments may be available during the Flower & Garden Show and holiday season, and our food truck operates on weekends during the Fall Festival.

Is there a cost to visit?

There is no cost to visit Hicks Nurseries at any time. We also provide free parking and free admission for our annual events such as the Flower & Garden Show, Fall Festival and pictures with Santa. Workshops, classes and fall festival enhanced activities have separate fees.
