How to Care for Kalanchoe

ABOUT KALANCHOE

Renowned as one of the most versatile succulents, Kalanchoe is prized for its brightly colored flowers in shades of red, pink, yellow, orange, and white. Count on the blooms to last for several weeks.

This resilient plant thrives in dry conditions and stores water in its thick, succulent leaves. It looks great on a sunny window sill or desk and stands out as a cherished choice for a thoughtful gift.

WATERING

When should I water my Kalanchoe?

Kalanchoe are drought tolerant and should be watered sparingly. To see if your plant needs water, stick your finger about an inch down into the soil. If it feels dry, water. If the soil feels moist, do not water. If you are unsure, check again in a few days.

Never mist your foliage. Misting leaves causes fungal issues and disease. The only plants that are okay to mist are ferns and carnivorous plants.

LIGHT NEEDS

Prefers bright indirect light.

GROWTH

Slowing growing to 6-18 inches tall and wide.

SOIL NEEDS

Grows best in a cactus mix or other sandy well-draining soil.

TEMPERATURE & HUMIDITY

Enjoys the same indoor temperatures and humidity levels that we do.

FERTILIZING

Fertilize March through October with an all-purpose houseplant food. To help it grow optimally and evenly, occasionally dust the leaves, and rotate the pot by a ¼ turn once a month. Prune only when needed.

ARE KALANCHOE PET SAFE?

According to the ASPCA it is toxic to dogs and cats.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Over-watering can cause root and stem rot. If you see this problem beginning, withhold water until the plant recovers.
