WATERING

When should I water my Ivy plant?

Ivy prefers moist but not wet soil conditions. To see if your plant needs water, stick your finger about an inch down into the soil. If it feels dry, water. If the soil feels moist, do not water. If you are unsure, check again in a few days.

Never mist your foliage. Misting leaves causes fungal issues and disease. The only plants that are okay to mist are ferns and carnivorous plants.

LIGHT NEEDS

Ivy plants prefer medium to bright indirect light.

GROWTH

Ivy is a slow-growing plant that is easy to maintain.

SOIL NEEDS

Ivy prefers moist, well-drained soil.

TEMPERATURE & HUMIDITY

Ivy thrives average indoor temperatures and high humidity. To boost humidity around the plant, place a tray filled with pebbles underneath its saucer or use a humidifier.

FERTILIZING

Fertilize Ivy March through October with an all-purpose houseplant food. To help it grow optimally and evenly, occasionally dust the leaves, and rotate the pot by a ¼ turn once a month. Prune only when needed.

ARE IVY PLANTS PET SAFE?

According to the ASPCA Ivy is toxic to dogs, cats, and horses.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Browning leaves on an Ivy plant can be a sign of both over- and under-watering. If you notice yellow leaves and the plant is otherwise healthy, it is likely that the older leaves are dying off to make way for new growth. You can trim those off.
