How to Plant and Care for Roses

Select a sunny spot in your garden that gets at least six hours of sunlight per day. Dig a hole that is wide and deep enough to comfortably accommodate your plant. Allow plenty of space between each rose bush to ensure good air circulation and sunlight exposure. After planting, fill the surrounding space in the hole with soil, water thoroughly, and add a layer of mulch to retain moisture and keep weeds out.

Proper care is crucial for the health and vibrancy of your rose bushes.
- Sunlight: Roses should receive six to eight hours of sunlight per day.
- Soil: Plant in rich, well-draining soil rich in organic matter.
- Water: New plantings require frequent and deep waterings during the first few weeks; afterwards normal rainfall is usually sufficient.
- Feeding: Fertilize with a rose or flower food early spring to mid-September. Follow the directions on the plant food you choose for best results.
- Pruning: In early spring, prune your roses, removing any dead, diseased, or damaged wood to maintain the shape and encourage new growth. Encourage reblooming by removing faded or dead flowers often.
