Are you ready for the Hicks Nurseries’ Flower & Garden Show? As I type this blog the staff is hard at work designing and planting the display gardens. It takes a lot of planning and hard work, but I can’t imagine Spring without it. For many gardeners, myself included, the Hicks Flower Show is the official beginning of Spring on Long Island. And I think we’re all ready for the snow to be gone and spring to be here!
Today I wanted to share an overview of the gardens. The 2014 theme is “Garden for Life: Discover Health & Wellness through the Joy of Gardening.” Learn how gardening can enhance your life, your neighborhood and the planet.
The featured garden displays are:
The Relaxation Garden is a tropical haven, an ideal spot for reflection, meditation and fun times with family and friends. Palm trees will tower over lush plantings and water features demonstrate how to bring a vacation experience to your own backyard.
The Earth Friendly Garden features clever and innovative recycling ideas that cost little and pay back much to the health of our planet. Organic solutions are featured here as well as ideas on the benefits and methods of attracting beneficial bees, birds and butterflies to the garden.
Children will love this year’s Learning Garden that features an interactive schoolhouse where families can plan their spring garden to be full of healthy, delicious foods that they have grown themselves while spending quality time as a family.
Check back regularly for updated blogs about the show and be sure to click on the “Events” tab for a complete list of our Flower Show seminars and events.
Hicks Nurseries’ Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter pages will provide constant updates and photos of the show as it is built during the coming weeks so be sure to check it out!
