June Plant Tips
- Mulch garden and landscape beds to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Fertilize annuals, vegetables & container plants for healthy summer growth.
- Add support for tomatoes, cucumbers and dahlias – if you haven’t already.
- Prune any growth beneath the flowers and fruit on tomato plants to focus energy on fruit production.
- Montauk daisies and mums will benefit from another cutback to stay dense and sturdy.
- June is National Rose Month – Add roses to your garden and deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowers.
- Celebrate Pollinator Month by planting flowers that provide nectar, shelter and water for bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
- Control mosquitoes by eliminating standing water and planting mosquito-repelling herbs.
- Mow your lawn regularly and keep grass at a height of 2½-3 inches.
- Annual Plastic Recycling Program now thru July 17. Open to all home gardeners. Please note:
