Seeds are really the most amazing little things. When combined with warm soil, water and sunlight they grow into amazing plants that not only provide beautiful flowers but can also provide food for you to eat!
I’m very fortunate to work at Hicks Nurseries, which offers a tremendous amount of seeds. If you cannot find it here – I doubt you’ll find it anywhere.
I want to share with you today some of the coolest seeds available. Whether you have a small pot on your windowsill, a giant planter on your patio or a huge garden in your backyard, you can plant seeds. Give it a try and involve the rest of the family. Nothing will please you more than to be able to say “I grew that!”

Wild Flower Mixes:
Wild flower mixes take the guesswork out of creating a garden full of many different types of flowers. I’m currently obsessed with Botanical Interests® mixes for bees, namely their “Precious Pollinators,” “Save The Bees” and “Butterfly Flower Milkweed” mixes. They are chock full of plants that attract and provide food for honeybees including Milkweed, Coreopsis, Gaillardia, Zinnia, Cosmos, Bee Balm and many others.
Broccoli Sprouting Summer Purple (Brassica oleracea (Italica group)
This sprouting broccoli produces shoots (rather than one head) and is easier to grow than common broccoli. Sow seeds in early spring or late summer. Harvest tender colorful broccoli spears for many weeks in summer and fall with this heat tolerant variety bred for robust production.
Mammoth Greystripe Sunflower (Helianthus annuus)
Adults and children love this fast-growing variety with enormous golden-yellow blossoms and edible seeds. Quickly grows to 8-10 feet tall with minimal care. This variety from the Lake Valley Seed Company is USDA Certified Organic. Non-GMO.
Flower Mix for Fairy Gardens
Create an enchanting garden that will open your eyes to the magic of fairies. This unique mix of colorful wildflowers, herbs and low-growing plants will captivate children and adults alike.
Green Zebra Pole Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum hybdrid)
Green Zebra has excellent flavor and unique color – rich golden green with forest green stripes. Very smooth skin essentially free of cracks, about 3” and 3 oz. each. When ripe the fruit will soften and develop a slight amber blush. More heat and drought tolerant than other varieties. USDA Certified Organic. Non-GMO.
Culinary Blend Basil (Ocimum basilcum)
The perfect blend for a kitchen garden. This mixture contains 25% of each of the following: Genovese, Corsican, Lemon and Lime Basil. These four varieties offer different flavors to create savory and sweet dishes. USDA Certified Organic. Non-GMO.
Cat Grass Mix (Avena sativa, Triticum aestivum, Hordeum vulgare)
